The Florida Gators will open their 2026 SEC schedule with a Week 3 clash against the Auburn Tigers at Jordan Hare Stadium on September 19. Under new head coach Jon Sumrall, Florida faces a tough test early in the season against an Auburn team led by former USF head coach Alex Golesh. The Gators' next game is against Florida Atlantic Owls on September 5, 2026.
Instead of looking at past Florida-Auburn matchups, the Gators' 2025 loss to USF provides insight. Golesh’s Bulls defeated Florida 18-16, with Auburn’s new quarterback, Byrum Brown, throwing for 263 yards and a touchdown. Brown, a dual-threat star from USF, will lead Auburn’s offense in 2026.
Byrum Brown, the redshirt senior transfer from USF, threw for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. He’ll have familiar targets in wide receiver Keshaun Singleton (877 yards in 2025) and running back Jeremiah Cobb (969 yards). Defensively, linebacker Xavier Atkins dominated in 2025 with 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
Auburn’s offense features 10 transfers, including Brown and Singleton, giving them chemistry early. Defensively, Atkins and the secondary will test Florida’s young quarterback DJ Lagway, who struggled against Golesh’s defense last season. The Gators must improve their passing game to compete in this SEC opener.
A win against Auburn would boost Florida’s confidence heading into the heart of SEC play. A loss could expose weaknesses in Sumrall’s first season. With key matchups ahead, this Week 3 game sets the tone for the Gators’ 2026 campaign.
