Florida Gators in Early Mix for Elite 2028 QB Prospect Lukas Prock

The Florida Gators are in the early mix for 2028 four-star quarterback Lukas Prock, who has quickly risen through the ranks within the 2028 recruiting class. As of this month, Prock is the No. 3 prospect in the state of New Jersey, as well as the No. 6 quarterback in the 2028 recruiting cycle, per 247Sports' Composite.

What happened?

Prock, a well-regarded quarterback prospect on the East Coast, has narrowed down his options to five schools, with Florida in the mix for the young talent. According to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Prock's top five schools include the Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Why it matters for Florida Gators

The Gators must begin investing in future classes, a move that has already begun to pay off for newly hired head coach Jon Sumrall and his staff. Since he arrived at the program back in December, Sumrall has accumulated a total of 26 commits in the 2027 class, including five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.

What comes next?

However, Sumrall and the Gators will have to fight an uphill battle for Prock if the program wants to land him for its 2028 class. The Buckeyes' 2028 class is already filled with top prospects, such as five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, the younger brother of Arizona Cardinals' star Marvin Harrison Jr. If Florida lands Prock, the program would finally secure its quarterback for the 2028 class. Sumrall failed to nab four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear earlier this month, so a heavy push for Prock seems possible heading into next year's recruiting cycle.

The Gators' next game is against the Florida Atlantic Owls on September 5, 2026. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, securing Prock would be a significant boost to their recruiting efforts. With Prock's impressive stats, including 4,330 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and seven interceptions during his sophomore season at Hun High School, the Gators would be getting a talented quarterback for their future.
