Florida Gators Secure New Commitments in 2027 Recruiting Class

The Florida Gators have landed their 22nd and 23rd commitments of the 2027 class as 3-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin committed to the Gators on June 6 and long snapper Jaydee Lane committed to the Gators on June 8.

Florida football recruiting continues to add to its impressive 2027 recruiting class under first-year coach Jon Sumrall.

The Gators' class is currently ranked fourth nationally, with one five-star commit and 14 four-star commits.

Coach Jon Sumrall's approach to recruiting is that it needs to be a fit on both sides, and he's not going to chase four and five stars just for the sake of chasing them.

Sumrall said following UF's spring game, "We can get anybody to come visit the University of Florida in America if we do a good job."

The University of Florida is the fifth-ranked public school in the United States of America academically, which is a major draw for recruits.

The Florida Gators will face the Florida Atlantic Owls on September 5, 2026, in their next game.

And the Gators are still rounding out their 2027 class, with several top recruits still considering the program.

But Sumrall is confident in his team's ability to attract top talent, saying "The energy's real" and "there's authentic relationships."

So the Gators will continue to work on building their 2027 class, with a focus on finding the right fits for the program.

The Gators have already landed several top commits, including Ellis McGaskin, who chose Florida over offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, LSU, and Arkansas.

McGaskin is the 43rd-rated linebacker in the 2027 class and 21st-rated player from Alabama, according to 247Sports.

Jaydee Lane, the long snapper, chose Florida over an offer from Mississippi State.

Kamarion Johnson, a 3-star athlete, is also committed to the Gators, and chose Florida over offers from Florida State, Cincinnati, North Carolina State, and Alabama.

Cahron Wheeler, a 4-star defensive end, is another top commit for the Gators, and is the 13th-rated defensive lineman and 128th-rated player overall in the 2027 class.
