Florida Gators Add 4‑Star Cornerbacks to 2027 Recruiting Class

Florida Gators have secured two new cornerbacks—four‑star Raheem Floyd and three‑star Kamauri Whitfield—for the 2027 recruiting class, marking the 26th and 27th pledges under first‑year head coach Jon Sumrall.

How did the Gators land these commitments?

Floyd, a 6‑1, 175‑lb junior from East St. Louis, Illinois, chose UF over offers from Missouri, Ole Miss, Arizona State and Cincinnati. In 11 games last season he logged 55 tackles and an interception, ranking 17th among cornerbacks in the 2025 class and 155th overall on 247Sports. Whitfield, a 5‑10, 185‑lb senior from Orlando’s First Academy, turned down Oregon, Nebraska, Tennessee and Arkansas. He posted 13 tackles, three pass breakups and a sack in nine games, plus sprinted 100 m in 11.16 seconds.

Why does Sumrall’s recruiting approach matter?

Sumrall told reporters after the spring game that he won’t chase stars for their ratings alone. He wants players who fit the program’s culture and can handle the academic rigor of a top‑ranked public university. "If you like us now, you’ll love us later; if you don’t, go elsewhere," he said, emphasizing authenticity over flash. This philosophy appears to be paying off, with the class now ranked ninth nationally, featuring one five‑star and ten four‑stars.

What does this mean for the Gators’ upcoming season?

Adding depth at cornerback strengthens a secondary that will face SEC offenses early. The Gators open the 2026 season on September 5 against the Florida Atlantic Owls, a game that could showcase how quickly these freshmen adapt to the speed of college play. Their performance in spring practices will likely dictate early‑season snap counts.

Who else is in the 2027 class?

Beyond Floyd and Whitfield, the Gators have locked in kicker Aaron McWilliams from East Coweta High School in Georgia. He converted 69 of 70 PATs and boasts a 50‑yard field‑goal long, impressing at the Kohl’s national scholarship camp. Defensive lineman Tre Geathers also signed, rounding out a class that balances size, speed, and academic ambition.

What’s the next recruiting step?

Sumrall’s staff will continue campus visits through the summer, targeting high‑school seniors who fit the "tough, love‑football" mold he described. With stadium renovations and a hungry fan base, the Gators aim to keep the momentum rolling toward a competitive 2026 campaign.
